Life’s a classroom (continues)
There was once a great king by the name of Solomon who says this:
"In my opinion, nothing is worthwhile; everything is futile. For what does a man get for all his hard work? Generations come and go, but it makes no difference. The sun rises and sets and hurries around to rise again. The wind blows south and north, here and there, twisting back and forth, getting nowhere.* The rivers run into the sea, but the sea is never full, and the water returns again to the rivers and flows again to the sea."
Which life do you dream of having from the moment you started to have dreams and desires. You could be ten years old, 15 years old, or at any age. Do you just want to only enjoy the fruits (destination) or you prefer to go through the journey (mills)?......If you just want to only enjoy the fruits and not the labor, what are the chances you will be like King Solomon who felt that everything is futile and meaningless? Because what you want is presented to you where you don’t even have to think, work, or stress yourself by going through the journey to achieve your desired goals.
Most dishes do not only depend on only one spice or one type of sauce to make it palatable to our taste buds even some do. But most of them need several spices and condiments be it bitter, spicy, minty, sweet, sour to prepare them.
In life too, it is the same too, it is the journey that we should all savor it. It is full of unexpected events and episodes; some bitter, some sweet, most of the time stressful and all kinds of assorted of emotions and feelings. If you take away all the above events and you are always being presented with the positive outcomes all the time, do you think you will enjoy every bit of it?
I said no. If you say yes, let’s do an exercise. You will need to close your eyes now for a minute and think and imagine about these scenes vividly and as real as possible. Just imagine you don’t have to work on anything in life and what you desire or wanted is presented before your very eyes. You can sleep the whole day, need not go to the office, need not see clients, need not make appointments, need not go through the horrible traffic jam, no one to chase you for deadlines or sales quota, need not this, and need not that AT ALL. OK, slowly close both your eyes now, inhale and exhale slowly and begin to ponder deeply, very deeply.
So do you still choose to have the destinations or the end results all the time or you now want to savor the journey like what you are going through now to reach your destination or life or dream goal?
Do you know of anyone as young as you are who has everything in life and need not need to lift even a finger to do anything? They party all day and every day if they want to. Their parents have engaged many maids and helpers and secretaries to provide for whatever their needs. As for money, they have unlimited access to their ‘black” supplementary credit cards. They will only wake up at 12pm, chit chat with their friends via social media, go to the gym for some health-conscious ones, drive in any of their dad’s fleet of cars unless they request to be chauffeured. They dine at posh restaurants. They can buy designer clothes every other day if they want to. No one can instruct them what to do. They do need to chase for sales like you do, drive to meet nasty clients, have a one to one discussion with bosses for their poor work performance. Now tell me, do you want this kind of easy and spoilt life?
If you still say yes to the above lifestyle, which is easy and a spoilt life, which I know for certain you won’t. Because those kinds of people will not read motivational books or self-help books like what you are doing now.
So remember that every situation and problem, are part and parcel of the journey to your sure success. The success that you are going to receive is different from successes that are presented to you when you don’t even need to break a sweat from your body.
"It is not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters." By Deb Sofield
“It’s not what happens that determines the quality or quantity of your life, and the reason is because what happens — happens to about everyone. The sun went down on all of us last night — a common event — and it is true that the same thing can happen to two different people, but one gets rich, and the other stays poor. Why is that? It’s not because of what happens to you but rather what you do about it.” You either react negatively against it or you respond positively towards it. No middle path.
So let us all look forward, start planning our action plans, be prepared for obstacles and challenges ahead.
